Testimonials

Cardinal Newman High School was keen to recognise and celebrate the 'hidden' curriculum for all our students. Employers and FE/ HE establishments can see from SQA certification how well individuals perform in respect of academia however, what these certificates do not show is all of the other skills students develop throughout their life at school. The EDICT programme designed specifically for this purpose allows us to highlight life-skills which are relevant to the educational experience of each and every individual pupil. These skill take account of all the core skills developed, enterprising skills and above all, emphasise further the can-do nature that the 'hidden curriculum' has to offer. By allowing every student to have an input in their own portfolio, makes the capacities of curriculum for excellence more relevant to the students and affords a better understanding of the transferable nature of the skills developed in the school and the world of work.

Every student leaving Cardinal Newman in the future will have evidence of their skills developed  displayed on an individualised certificate which the package devised by EDICT has allowed us to produce. These certificates, by their very nature, will hopefully serve to ensure that employers recognise that our students are equipped with the skills to ensure they become successful citizens of the 21st century.

The step by step instructions were easy to follow.

Really enjoyed completing this opportunity. Instructions were easy to follow.

LF, Netherthorpe School

I discussed my skills profile with a member of staff, after carrying out assessments of my skills in subject classes and out of class activities. It was very accurate and gave a good picture of what I am good at. I am now confident about talking to other people about the skills that I’ve got, because I know what I did to develop them and I know what my strengths are.

David Whitten, S4 Pupil - Govan High School

We have worked with EdICT to produce a database that provides accurate and vital information on young people which records and reports every skill they develop in school. We can see what activity the young person did to develop a specific skill and see clearly where that young person’s strengths lie. We can also identify what opportunities that young person might need to be given to develop certain skills.

We now have a system which can be interrogated, is not cumbersome to staff and has actually reduced workload in many areas of the school.

EdICT has made working with the system extremely flexible, as they focus on what we, as a school, needed, rather than what was technically possible. This means that the GAD meets the needs of young people, not the limitations of the programmer.

Philip Graham, Depute Head - Govan High

Very impressed. I had a working knowledge of Excel but still learnt a few shortcuts.

AS, Netherthorpe School

One of the great strengths of this organisation is the closeness of the working team.  They understand perfectly how their own particular work fits with that of the others to create a successful whole.  They are proud of what they are achieving and see their service as providing a valuable product.
